Flink Events & Programming

As the Head of People Experience at Flink, one of my many responsibilities was internal programming.

The company launched in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. During my tenure, the company grew rapidly - reaching 17, 000 employees at its peak. With the aggressive goals, highly competitive ecosystem and an open work from home policy - Flink needed to make consistent efforts to ensure folks stayed connected, informed and motivated.

I was able to accomplish this through the creation of numerous four different series.

Friday Learnings and Breakfast:

When I started at Flink, Friday Learnings and Beers was a weekly gathering on Friday evenings that was - despite a growing team in Austria, France and The Netherlands - very Berlin centric. Through my guidance, I improved the production, content, and relevancy - making it a must-not-miss event that became a key ritual for all HQ employees and operations leaders (i.e. Shift Leaders, Hub Managers, City Managers who worked on the ground). By moving it to morning it also meant that instead of alcohol accompanying the content, it was freshly baked goods.

Berlin All Hands:

As the Berlin HQ grew to more than 650 people, it was clear that it was time to create a place for the specific concerns and accomplishments of the office to be addressed. The Berlin All-Hands then joined the rotation of events, giving the leaders an opportunity to address the specific improvements in the German market as well as questions pertaining to their experience in the HQ, answered through an open Ask Me Anything to provide transparency. We reduced the frequency of Friday Learnings and Breakfast to accomodate this, ensuring employees didn’t feel meeting fatigue.

Global Quarterly Review:

The idea for the Global Quarterly Review is something I brought to the leadership team early; I knew it would be key to ensuring folks could feel pride in their work and keep the larger vision in mind. It was an in-depth review of what each department and market had accomplished. Held on the first week of each quarter, it became a time to celebrate and motivate the teams across Europe.

Flink Masterclass:

With budget constraints for learning and development, I came up with the idea of using the talent within the company to teach topics folks were expressing interest in. The masterclass was an opportunity for any employee to teach their colleagues in the other HQs or operations teams about a topic they were an expert in. It could be anything from how to give steller presentations to how to build a phenomenal notion page. The events were held in-person and online, ensuring teachers weren’t limited to a location or department. This meant that a single event could have a massive impact.

The result: impactful events that increased engagement, provided valuable insights to the workforce, and created a greater sense of community - at a very low cost.
